Licence Number: 2578
Dr. Ketan Tailor earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology from Marquette University and completed postdoctoral training at Brandeis University. He is a registered psychologist in the provinces of Alberta, British Columbia and Manitoba, and is also a registrant of the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.
In addition to individual psychotherapy, Dr. Tailor offers psychological testing services to patients in his practice. He is a clinical instructor as part of University of Victoria’s Ph.D. program in clinical psychology. He has published several research papers focused on child abuse and neglect, and continues to contribute to research literature in the area.
Dr. Tailor has worked in a variety of settings across Canada and the United States including community clinics, medical schools, integrative health care centers, and university counseling centers. He treats patients 18 years of age and older. He is particularly skilled in treating trauma and PTSD; depression and mood-related concerns; self-esteem and identity issues; anxiety and panic; obsessions and compulsions; relationship concerns; grief, separation and loss; life transitions (e.g., midlife crises); vocational and career-related concerns; and existential concerns (e.g., fear of death).
Dr. Tailor’s approach to therapy is collaborative, genuine, warm and respectful. He centers his work with patients on psychodynamic theory, although he is eclectic in his process, meaning he draws on a range of traditions to be helpful to his patients (cognitive-behavioral, existential, mindfulness). As much as psychotherapy has shifted to science and evidence-based practice, Dr. Tailor believes therapy is equally an art. In this spirit, he will exercise a good amount of creativity to tailor his knowledge, which includes both science and philosophy, to each patient’s unique presentation and concern.
